As requested by numerous users, Revisions is now a menu bar app that can be quickly and easily accessed whenever you use your Mac. While this required quite significant changes to the user interface, all the features you loved in the app have been preserved.
The update also includes a streamlined setup process, making it really easy to get started using the app. Finally, Revisions 2.0 can now connect directly to the sandboxed version of Kaleidoscope.
(Note that if you prefer to keep using Revisions as a regular app, which is launched manually and lives in the dock, you can simply continue to use version 1.3 of the app. If you already updated to 2.0 via the Mac App Store, just delete the app and download version 1.3 from here. The direct download version also recognizes Premium licenses purchased via in-app-purchase from the Mac App Store, so you'll continue to have all the features you've paid for!)
Direct download: Revisions 1.3 (released December 22, 2014) Mac app store: Not available anymore (released January 6, 2015)
Adds new multi-file undo functionality, allowing you to easily undo a set of sequential edits. This version also adds an easy-to-use user interface for the (premium-only) feature of ignoring files and folders based on filename, extension, or regular expressions. The update also includes a few minor user interface improvements.
Direct download: Revisions 1.2.3 (released December 2, 2014) Mac app store: Not available anymore (released December 6, 2014)
Fixes a rare issue with linking the app to Dropbox, where clicking on the Connect to Dropbox button did not open a browser window to let the user link the app.
Revisions 1.2.2 (only available by direct download) adds the possibility to buy licenses for Premium functionality outside the Mac App Store. Purchases are made through FastSpring in the U.S. and the price in USD matches that of the Mac App Store, i.e. $9.99. (Since this is converted to your local currency via current exchange rates, note that this may differ somewhat from the local price available to you in the Mac App Store.)
Direct download: Revisions 1.2.1 (released November 22, 2014) Mac app store: Not available anymore (released November 27, 2014)
Revisions 1.2.1 adds the ability to connect arbitrary file comparison (diff) apps using custom scripting. In addition, premium users can now ignore (filter out) files or folders based on regular expression match. For details on these features, see the FAQ. The update also includes a few minor user interface improvements.
Direct download: Revisions 1.2 (released November 22, 2014) Mac app store: Not available anymore (released November 13, 2014)
Perhaps the most important release to date. Revisions 1.2 adds a number of new features and improvements and significantly improves the stability and performance of the app:
- Revisions now displays the identity of the user who made any given edit (only available in the Premium version of the app).
- The app now avoids the need to re-query all folders on launch, making it painless to quit and relaunch the app as often as desired, even if you have a large Dropbox.
- This version introduces a mechanism for purchasing the Premium version of Revisions (only possible via the Mac app store version of the app), and an in-app support form making it easy to contact the developer of the app.
- Improvements to the general stability and performance of the app, including significantly decreased memory consumption.
Note: Unfortunately, as a consequence of some of these improvements, I had to raise the minimum system requirement to OS X 10.8.
Please continue to send feedback, I really appreciate it!
Direct download: Revisions 1.1 (released September 9, 2014) Mac app store: Not available anymore (released September 11, 2014)
This is an important update that significantly improves the user interface in a number of ways. The main new feature is that file edits are grouped together to give a better overview of editing activity, also allowing version comparison (diff of edits) spanning multiple individual edits. It is also possible to perform version comparisons for any file types that the supported third-party diff applications allow.
Revisions can how handle up to 25,000 files in a single folder (maximum set by Dropbox API) and will inform the user if any folder is larger than this.
Many other minor improvements and bug fixes.
Note: Unfortunately, Revisions 1.1 does not support searching edits by filename or edit type. I will be rewriting this feature and putting it back in for a later version of the app, but for now, if this is a crucial feature to you, you may want to skip this version. In case you already updated and would like to go back, just delete the app from your Applications folder and download Revisions 1.0.1 (web download link below) and install it instead. The app should not need to re-index your Dropbox, and everything should work just as it did before!
Direct download: Revisions 1.0.1 (released June 29, 2014) Mac app store: Not available anymore (released July 4, 2014)
This is a minor update that addresses a couple of user-reported issues:
- Dates and times are now displayed in the user-selected format (set in System Preferences > Language and Region, Revisions currently uses the "Medium" format in all cases).
- I have fixed a bug that for some users caused Revisions to get stuck while indexing (file indexing progress bar stops decreasing).
- Fixed a rare issue related to the display of the main window which sometimes occurred after the app was running for a long duration
